Scottish Arts Council launches project for young companies.

A new project that aims to help young theatre companies share creativity and collaborate to develop exciting new work has been launched with support from the Scottish Arts Council and Glasgow City Council. Vanishing Point, a Glasgow-based theatre company, is providing dedicated office space to four up-and-coming arts organisations in 2005. Vanishing Point is also managing a year-long pilot program based around a series of workshops. The workshops will be focussed on areas the successful companies feel that they need to improve their skills in, and feature the experience not only of the staff at Vanishing Point, but also of other established Scottish companies. Each of the successful companies that have applied to the project will create short and long term objectives. Vanishing Point will help the companies to build and strengthen their organisation throughout the year on aspects such as administration, funding and accountancy, allowing them to maximise the time they spend on creating new work. David Taylor, Head of Drama at the Scottish Arts Council, says: ‘This is a fantastic initiative, which will provide developing Scottish theatre companies with the opportunity to share ideas and resources with an established and respected company like Vanishing Point. I am sure that this initiative will lead to some really exciting new drama for Scottish audiences.’ The four companies participating in the new program are Vox Motus, Ek, David Leddy, and Random Accomplice. Though relatively young as companies, they all draw on a formidable well of performance experience. Marrying that to the administration and management knowledge the seminars and time spent with Vanishing Point will provide, the companies are all hoping to expand in variety of ways for 2005. Through their year with Vanishing Point, they are all planning to perform new shows and also launch tours.
