New co production agreement signed between France and Switzerland
Renaud Donnedieu de Vabres, the French minister for culture and communication, and Pascal Couchepin, the Swiss minister for culture, science, research, education and social affairs have signed a new Franco-Swiss agreement concerning film production. The agreement focuses on cinematographic co production with the aim to energise and strengthen ties between each country’s cinematography. It replaces a similar arrangement from 1977, which was jettisoned in order to better take into account market realities and to allow professionals from both countries to have access to co production. The biggest outcome of the agreement is that access conditions will become less restrictive. The threshold for participation for a minor producer has been reduced from contributions of 20% to 10% for each co producer. Switzerland, who is already a member of Fonds Eurimages, will adhere to the 2005 European Union "Media Plus" program, and the bilateral agreement is registered within the framework of European policy favouring cinema.
