Special Committee on Traditional Arts announced
Irish Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism, Mr John O'Donoghue, today established a Special Committee on the Traditional Arts to advise the national Arts Council. The committee will be charged with reviewing traditional arts infrastructure and policy nationwide and making recommendations for future development in the sector. The five-person committee will be chaired by Jerome Hynes, Deputy Chair of the Arts Council of Ireland. The other members are Philip King, Micheál O hEidhin, Una Ó Murchú and Katie Verling, each active practitioners in the traditional arts field. The Committee must report to the Arts Council by September 1, 2004. Its recommendations are expected to shape policy on the traditional arts for the next three to five years.
