Live music touring scheme for Scotland launched

A live music touring programme, featuring everything from Scottish traditional music to contemporary bands, was launched in Glasgow earlier this week. The Minister for Tourism, Culture and Sport, Frank McAveety, announced that the Tune Up live music programme will tour traditional and contemporary Scottish bands to the far reaches of Scotland between February and April 2004. The Scottish Arts Council (SAC) lottery is funding the tour. Head of Music at the SAC, Nod Knowles, said the aim was to bring both national and international music to audiences who would not normally get the opportunity to experience it. ‘We have created Tune Up to take more kinds of music to more people in more places, because we know that it is often difficult for people to hear the kind of high quality live music they want to, and it’s equally difficult for bands to finance tours to all the places they’d like to visit,’ he said. ‘From now on, Tune Up will offer audiences across Scotland a broad range of fantastic musical experiences and present high profile artists,’ said Knowles.
