'Cultureshock' producer awarded NESTA grant

One of the creative producers responsible for Manchester's Cultureshock Festival, the Commonwealth Games Cultural Programme in 2002, has received financial support of GBP£60,000 to develop her work on an international scale. Tanja Farmer was awarded the funds for over 25 months from the UK's National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (NESTA). The funds will go towards a series of attachments Farman will participate in at international organisations, including the Sydney Opera House, the Barbican Centre and the Melbourne International Arts Festival, to research and explore new models and ways of working. She will also visit a range of other international arts festivals and arts markets to seek out opportunities for collaboration between UK and international artists, as well as developing an artist residency and two co-commissions of artists or companies to enable her to work on a larger scale. A NESTA spokesperson said the organisation wanted to invest in an individual who had the potential to develop as a creative producer in the area of large-scale international work, and Farman’s achievements as part of the Commonwealth Games made her an ideal candidate.
