NEA supports new technology to advance the arts

The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) has announced that it will award US$1.5 million to non-profit arts organisations to help them develop distinctive ways of using new technology to advance the arts and better serve the public. NEA Chairman, Dana Gioia, said the endowment hopes the 13 organisations to receive funds ranging from US$50,000 to US$165,000 will provide leadership to their respective fields, and act as models to be duplicated by other arts organisations. ‘Many arts organisations lack the resources to realise their full technological potential and often struggle to provide their patrons with the up-to-date information and online programming they demand,’ he said. The projects will support and develop hardware and software, technological and distribution mechanisms, distance learning, and efforts to create shared community using technology.
