New members to National Council on the Arts

National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Chairman Dana Gioia welcomed five new members to the National Council on the Arts recently. The new members to the advisory body of the NEA were nominated for the Council by President George W Bush and confirmed by the US Senate. Council members are chosen for their recognised knowledge of the arts, their expertise or interest in the arts and their record of contribution or achievement in the arts. The five new members are opera singer Mary Costa, visual artist Makoto Fujimura, author David H Gelernter, artist Jerry Pinkney and music educator Karen Lias Wolff.
