Cultural sector skills council proposed

Key representatives from the UK creative and cultural industries have launched a new website and prospectus entitled ‘The Right War Forward: An Invitation to the Creative and Cultural Industries’. The prospectus proposes the development of a Creative and Cultural Sector Skills Council to work with UK creative and cultural industry employees so as to maintain a vibrant sector. The areas of work covered by the proposed council include archives and libraries; the arts; crafts; cultural heritage and design. Richard Pulford, of the Theatrical Management Association and the Society of London Theatre – two of the key representative bodies – said that the proposed council would help the arts and cultural industries remain credible. ‘The creative and cultural industries already make a huge contribution to the economy and a Sector Skills Council will help us to improve skills and maintain our input,’ he said.
