Planning for the sixth IberoAmerican Cultural Conference progresses
Cultural representatives from some 21 IberoAmerican (Spanish–American) nations met in Chile’s capital, Santiago de Chile, recently, to prepare for the Sixth IberoAmerican Cultural Conference, which will take place in the Dominican Republic October 3-4. According to a report from the meeting, the discussion document, ‘The Unfolding of the Agenda of IberoAmerican Cultural Co-operation: Antecedants and Perspectives’ – which analyses the current situation of regional co-operation and identifies further actions and initiatives – was favourably received. It was also reported that there was a broad consensus on the need to continue along the path adopted at the previous cultural conference, which favoured concrete actions arising from recommendations. A working document is now to be prepared for consideration at the coming conference, around the priority themes of cultural diversity and international trade in cultural goods and services. An action plan was outlined at the meeting, which included the following initiatives:
