Creative NZ assists in representation at Asia-Pacific Triennial

Grants provided by Creative New Zealand's Arts Board and Pacific Arts Committee will assist New Zealand artists to be represented at the Asia–Pacific Triennial (APT) of Contemporary Art 2002, to be held at the Queensland Art Gallery (QAG), from September 12. A total of NZ$75,000 has been awarded to QAG, both to assist artists Ralph Hotere and Lisa Reihana to participate in the event, as well as for the New Zealand Pacific Island component – to include the Pasifika Diva performance project, and an archival video compilation by Ole Maiava. Queensland Art Gallery Director Doug Hall says APT 2002 will present works by a core group of senior artists, who have made significant contributions to international contemporary art and modern culture since the 1960s. 'The exhibition creates a context in which we see works by these senior artists, alongside artworks dealing with similar ideas and themes by other regionally significant, but lesser known artists,' he commented. Other artists to be represented at APT are: Montien Boonma (Thailand), Eugene Carchesio (Australia), Heri Dono (Indonesia), Joan Grounds (USA/Australia), Yayoi Kusama (Japan), Lee U-fan (South Korea/Japan), Jose Legaspi (Philippines), Michael Ming-Hong Lin (Taiwan), Nalini Malani (India), Nam June Paik (South Korea/USA), Michael Riley (Australia), Song Dong (China), Suh Do-Ho (South Korea/USA) and Howard Taylor (Australia).
