Regional Chapters

What is an IFACCA regional chapter?
Regional chapters comprise, in general, IFACCA’s national members. The purpose of regional chapters is to:
• build inter- and intra-regional networks between national and affiliate members of IFACCA, to promote understanding and enhance cooperation between arts councils, ministries of culture and other key cultural agencies
• promote a consolidated platform for the sharing and exchange of collective knowledge of arts councils and ministries of culture
• strengthen the capacity of arts councils and ministries of culture to meet the challenges and opportunities of policy-making and funding issues
• promote IFACCA at the regional level and assist in increasing membership
• undertake activities of interest to regional members that meet the objectives of the Federation.
Meetings of regional chapters are organised and hosted by members as required.

Regional chapters operate within the parameters of IFACCA’s constitution.

IFACCA AFRICAN CHAPTER

IFACCA has over 70 national members, from every continent. 17 of IFACCA's national members and a further 6 affiliate members are from Africa.

See the current members list.

An African Chapter Fact Sheet is available in English and in French.

Key areas of discussion and current projects:

Current priorities for the African Chapter include: raising independent funds; building capacity within arts councils and the creative sector; building strategic national, regional and international networks and partnerships; and advocacy. Members have also discussed current IFACCA projects including research into arts advocacy campaigns, IFACCA’s research programme, and the forthcoming 5th World Summit on Arts and Culture.

IFACCA is currently developing WorldCP, a central, web-based and continuously updated database of country-specific profiles of cultural policies, modelled on the highly regarded Compendium of Cultural Policies and Trends in Europe. IFACCA will also be working with its partners in the region to develop WorldCP-Africa.

Key areas of discussion and current projects:

The Asian Chapter of IFACCA has recently focussed on:
• Cross Country Arts Advocacy Benchmarking – The members of the Chapter have shared examples of practices in arts advocacy to learn how various countries articulate the value of the arts to their stakeholders. At the next meeting (in October 2010), members will discuss or present case studies on arts advocacy.
• Handbook on arts funding policies – In 2009 the members of the Chapter compiled information on the structures and mechanisms for arts funding in each country in order to provide each other with a better understanding of the agencies, models and schemes that exist to support the arts as well as the challenges faced by the current systems. The handbook was published in April 2010. The full handbook is available to download here. The information gathered in this process will help to inform the development of WorldCP-Asia.
• In May 2011, IFACCA invited all members to participate in WorldCP-Asia, a major new initiative to document the cultural policies of countries in Asia. This project is a central component in the development of WorldCP, an international version of the highly regarded Compendium of Cultural Policies and Trends in Europe. Initial development of WorldCP-Asia is currently in progress.
