Assistant Director, Public Engagement
The Australian Museum is a museum of natural science and world cultures, and our purpose is to inspire people to explore nature and culture. We are currently seeking a dynamic, outcomes focused professional to lead the Museum's Public Engagement Division.
Reporting to the Director, the Assistant Director, Public Engagement, will lead the development of innovative, relevant, financially well- managed and well- marketed exhibitions, web, education and public programs. Working closely with the Director, the Assistant Director will also lead the Museum's fundraising, marketing and Members programs.
Selection Criteria:
1. Experience in a management role of an organisation which has as a key purpose the engagement of people in creative, cultural, educational or entertainment activities and programs.
2. Experience working with diverse audiences to develop programs that are relevant, accessible and inspiring.
3. Experience of strategic thinking and planning in an audience focused or related environment.
4. Understanding of the range of commercial activities that are undertaken in a not for profit museum environment, and the ability to build these to support the Australian Museum.
5. Understanding of the need for and process of building support from sponsors, donors, Members and Foundations.
6. Understanding of contemporary museum practice and of the issues facing museums currently, and the ability to put in place strategies and systems addressing to these issues.
7. High level people management, interpersonal, change management and negotiation skills.
8. Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline.
