ELIA Deputy Director (Full time)

A key management post with responsibility for communications and advising on future strategic planning.

Overall Purpose Statement

The Deputy Director deputises the Executive Director and has a number of unique responsibilities. The Deputy Director investigates and effectively serves the needs of the ELIA membership and, where required, ELIA’s key stakeholders. He or she is responsible for all communication concerning ELIA and serves as a key representative of the organisation.

Responsibilities and Tasks
◦Represent ELIA and deputises the Executive Director;
◦Responsible for internal office management and communication and general planning;
◦Responsible for marketing and promotion of ELIA with the aim to increase the visibility of ELIA to its members, constituents, international networks in the fields of higher arts education, government bodies and other key stakeholders or target groups;
◦Responsible for development and evaluation of all communications, including development of the website, database, production and distribution of publications and archives;
◦In conjunction with Executive Director responsible for income generating strategies, including investigating services for members and key stakeholders;
◦In conjunction with the Executive Director responsible for developing and executing the two-year Operational Plans
◦In conjunction with the Executive Director advising on the development of proposals for Four Year Development Plans and new policies;
◦Responsible for developing and implementing strategies to ensure that ELIA stays well informed about its members, their needs and expectations;
◦Responsible for developing and implementing a strategy that supports ELIA in its aim to increase membership;
◦Responsible for maintaining contacts with international networks and governments on both national and European level;
◦Responsible for managing projects “to be identified”;
◦Advising in developing new initiatives and applications;
◦Supervise and appraise staff members;
◦Undertake any tasks and responsibilities as reasonably required by the organisation.

Organisation Relationships

The Deputy Director is monitored and appraised by the Executive Director.

Profile Deputy Director ELIA

Essential:
◦Higher education qualification;
◦Strong managerial and communication skills, both written and spoken;
◦Minimum of five years experience in the higher education sector and/or in international networking;
◦Analytical and strategic qualities ;
◦Excellent working knowledge of English, both written and spoken, good working knowledge of Dutch;
◦Strong IT skills and knowledge of new media technologies;
◦Ability to effectively communicate and liaise with many different groups and nationalities, and operate in a range of different cultural environments;
◦Affinity with higher arts education on a national and European level;
◦Knowledge of and experience with project management and related financial management;
◦Flexible and pro-active attitude;
◦Able to work under stress and prepared to travel and work irregular hours;
◦Team player;
◦Inspiring and committed;
Desirable:
◦Good working knowledge of Dutch and/or other European languages, both written and spoken;
◦Experience in business communications, editorial skills;
◦Experience with income generating techniques for network and membership projects;
◦Knowledge of and experience with European policy developments;
◦Confident with public appearance, advocacy and lobby activities;
◦Experience with monitoring staff and appraisals.
