One of the key roles for the Government Olympic Executive (GOE) is to provide assurance for Government that the financial and operational risks to successful delivery of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and their Legacy (The 2012 Programme) are being properly managed. To that end, the Olympic Programme and Project Office (OPPO) was established to lead and drive an integrated approach to delivery across the Programme.

The OPPO’s roles include developing a cross-Programme plan, actively monitoring and reporting progress, identifying dependencies, ensuring a risked based approach and facilitating issue resolution ¬- providing the Olympic Board and its Steering Group with a comprehensive view of progress and risks across the Programme.

As the programme of work accelerates, GOE’s role in delivery assurance has become increasingly important. Recently, the work of OPPO has expanded in this area to lead integrated delivery assurance across the 2012 Programme, ensuring on behalf of the Olympic Board Steering Group (OBSG) that:

•programme delivery plans across the programme are in place, coordinated and aligned to a shared business vision;
•delivery progress is being maintained against plans, and risks and issues, particularly inter-dependencies, are being identified and managed;
•suitable governance and management control arrangements are in place and working effectively across the programme to ensure integrated delivery.
