MAJOR DUTIES: | |
Duties to be performed by the incumbent are as follows: Reviews proposals from Theater and Musical Theater constituents, manages panel review process for applications, proposes funding amounts, presents grant recommendations for consideration by the Chairman, Senior Deputy Chairman, Deputy Chairman for Grants and Awards, and to the National Council on the Arts. Works as a team member within the Division and provides professional leadership and authoritative consultation services, advice and guidance within and between Divisions on the development of guidelines, leadership initiatives and the review of applications/proposals. Works with other discipline directors, deputy chairmen, senior staff, constituents, private and public funders and top-level officials of other agencies and organizations to design national leadership initiatives and develop partnerships to advance the Theater & Musical Theater fields and the arts as a whole. Selects experts in the Theater and Musical Theater fields to serve as pre-screening and panel reviewers and chairs panel meetings. Organizes groups of reviewers and consultants appointed by the Chairman, Senior Deputy Chairman, and Deputy Chairman for Grants and Awards to assist in evaluating proposals and planning future programs. Act as the Arts Endowment's representative on matters affecting the Theater and Musical Theater fields. Participates in meetings and conferences addressing Theater and Musical Theater issues. Communicates Arts Endowment policy developments that may have an impact upon artistic or administrative operations. Participates in the formulation of rules, regulations, policies, and procedures to implement legislation affecting the Arts Endowment. This includes recommendations concerning budget formulation. Maintains good relations with leaders in the field and related fields and keeps abreast of their perspectives on current and future trends. Travels to attend performances, visit facilities, conduct meetings, and discuss issues with applicants, grantees, other interested parties, and the general public. | |

This position is located in the Folk & Traditional Arts, Literature, Musical Theater and Theater Division where the incumbent reports to the Deputy Chairman for Grants and Awards and serves as the Agency's nationally recognized expert and authority in the fields of Theater and Musical Theater.
