Time Commitment
The Board of Trustees meets formally 4 times a year (usually Tuesday mornings in February, May, September and November). Trustees may be invited to other events and there may be special meetings to consider a major topic. A small number of Trustees also serve on an Executive Committee. The overall time commitment averages out at 1 day a month
The Theatres Trust
The Theatres Trust is a statutory consultee on planning and listed building applications. Local authorities are required to consult the Trust on planning applications affecting land on which there is a theatre. The Trust also assists in the maintenance of theatres, and offers pre-application advice and information on theatres and performing arts buildings in relation to architecture and design, heritage and conservation, property and planning, regeneration and development and theatre use.
The Trust has a UK wide remit to provide leadership in the statutory planning and protection of theatres and to develop a strategic approach to achieving better protection for theatres. The main objective of The Theatres Trust is to safeguard theatre use, or the potential for theatre use.
The Person
All Theatres Trust trustees should be able to demonstrate:
An excellent public profile with the ability to influence decision makers and the public.
A financially, creatively and culturally innovative approach.
Excellent presentation and communication skills and an ability to promote the work of the Trust.
An understanding of the role of the Trust as an Advisory Public Body.
An understanding of the need to act with due diligence.
Expertise specific to this post
The successful candidate will be:
- Located in Northern Ireland and well networked in the theatre sector.
- Able to convene and chair meetings of a prospective Northern Ireland Working Party.
- Capacity to communicate the interests of Northern Ireland in relation to the work of the Trust.
- Excellent presentation and communication skills in order to promote the work of the Trust in Northern Ireland.
Desirable Expertise:
It would desirable for the successful candidate to have significant experience in one of the following areas:
- Education, community and cultural development within regeneration areas, and engaging socially excluded groups in theatre-building based cultural activities.
- Public sector planning policy and the built environment, related to cultural provision, improving design and access, or the historic environment.

Remuneration
Trustees serve on an honorary basis. However, expenses reasonably incurred in connection with their duties, will be reimbursed.
