Executive Director Advocacy & Communications
Arts Council England is an influential and dynamic organisation with a clear and unequivocal mission - to get great art to everyone by championing, developing and investing in art that enriches people's lives. We are responsible for investing, between 2008 and 2011, in excess of £1.6 billion of public money from the Government and the National Lottery, to create the conditions for artistic ambition to be realised and for audiences to experience the great art that results.
Working in close partnership with the Chief Executive to help drive the strategic long term positioning of our organisation, and with a place on the Executive Board, this is a pivotal role. Communications and advocacy skills are at the heart of our success and for the successful individual, these will be first class. Responsible for running the communications department, proven experience at guiding, mentoring and setting strategy for a team will be essential.
Cogent, influential, collegiate, tenacious but diplomatic, the individual for this role must have proven strategic and stakeholder management skills and be able to deal with considerable organisational complexity. Judgement and leadership will be two key attributes as influence and advice will be required across diverse audiences and at the highest levels. Responsible for the communications strategy, reputation management is of paramount importance. Often acting directly as spokesperson, this individual must ensure that there is strong engagement both internally with the values and mission of our organisation.
A communications professional who is looking to make a difference in a sector where passion and creativity need to be underpinned by canny pragmatism and strategic insight, will thrive in this innovative, confident and focused organisation.
