Head, Visual Arts
Under the direct supervision of the Divisional Director, Arts Disciplines, manages the programs, activities, employees and budget of the Section; promotes and implements the Canada Council’s governance policy, the policy of peer evaluation and the rules and procedures of the Arts Disciplines Division; develops policy and program initiatives for enhancing Canada Council's role in the development of Canada's artists and arts organizations; promotes and ensures fair and equal access to programs by all qualified artists and arts organizations; contributes to the strategic planning and short-range and long-range development of the Canada Council; and performs other related duties.
Knowledge and skills
The duties of the position require a thorough knowledge of the principles, theories, and practical aspects of management, as well as excellent project and program management skills.
A thorough knowledge of the history and current state of visual arts in Canada, a good knowledge of trends and new developments in visual arts, and a good understanding of the Council's policies and its role as a funding agency is also required.
The required knowledge and skills are normally acquired though the completion of a master's degree or equivalent professional practice.
