Program Officer, (Education)
Under the general direction of the Secretary-General, Canadian Commission for UNESCO, the Program Officer (Education) manages programme activities and initiatives of the Canadian Commission for UNESCO in the areas of education and lifelong; prepares materials to be used in various education initiatives and reports; contributes material to the Commission’s website; ensures liaison and co-operation between the Council of Ministers of Education (Canada), the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Canada’s Permanent Mission to UNESCO, Human Resources and Social Development Canada, the Canadian International Development Agency and the Commission, as well as non-governmental organizations working in the field of education in Canada and internationally; and undertakes other duties as assigned by the Secretary-General.
The Program Officer (Education) for the Canadian Commission for UNESCO will have a minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in an aspect of education that falls within UNESCO’s mandate. He/she will be a mature individual with an understanding and appreciation of the role of UNESCO in international relations, and of the Commission’s unique position as an agency which ensures liaison between UNESCO, civil society and both government and non-governmental organizations in Canada.
