Its 600 staff work from the main HQ at Kew and also across sites in Norwich and central London. The National Archives brings together the Public Record Office, Historical Manuscripts Commission, the Office of Public Sector Information and Her Majesty's Stationery Office. The National Archives is at the heart of information policy - setting standards and supporting innovation in information and records management across the UK, and providing a practical framework of best practice for opening up and encouraging the re-use of public sector information. This work helps inform today's decisions and ensures that they become tomorrow's permanent record. The National Archives is also the UK government’s official archive, containing 900 years of history from Domesday Book to the present, with records ranging from parchment and paper scrolls through to recently created digital files and archived websites. Increasingly, these records are being put online, making them universally accessible. Public Services and Marketing is responsible for making The National Archives' records available to the public, both onsite and online, and for developing and promoting high-quality public services. The team provides expert advice and other services to readers and remote users, and expert knowledge about the records through the creation and refinement of traditional and electronic finding aids. It also provides the means for researchers to obtain a copy of a record, either onsite or online, and is responsible for the storage of public records and for making them available to the public and government users. Finally, the team promotes the work of TNA through a range of communications activities. Information Policy and Services (IPS) is at the heart of information policy, setting standards, delivering access and encouraging the re-use of public sector information. IPS provides a wide range of services to the public, information industry, government and the wider public sector relating to finding, archiving, using, sharing and trading information. In October 2006 the Office of Public Sector Information (OPSI) merged with the National Archives. The IPS Directorate was formed in May 2007 when the OPSI Departments joined the National Advisory Service, Records Management and Cataloguing and Research and Collections Development Departments. The combined organisation provides strong and coherent leadership of information policy across government and the wider public sector.
