Duties This position is located in the Dance/Design/Media/Museum/Visual Arts Division where the incumbent reports to the Deputy Chairman for Grants and Awards. The incumbent is a recognized expert and authority in the Design field and is considered a member of the Division Management Team. The Design field includes but is not limited to architecture, landscape architecture, urban design and planning, graphic design, product design, and interior design. Duties to be performed by the incumbent are as follows: Serves as the agency's nationally recognized expert and authority for the Design area in discussions throughout the agency including collaborations with other divisions. Provides national leadership and direction concerning agency assessments of funding and other assistance for the area of Design. Works as a team member within the division and provides professional leadership and authoritative consultation services, advice and guidance within and between divisions on the development of guidelines, leadership initiatives and the review of applications/proposals. Works with other arts discipline directors, deputy chairmen, senior staff, constituents, private and public funders and top-level officials of other agencies and organizations to design national leadership initiatives and develop partnerships to advance the Design area and the arts as a whole. Studies and analyzes conditions and trends as they relate to and affect the area of Design and formulates and recommends appropriate grant programs and leadership initiatives for groups and organizations in those areas. Reviews proposals from Design constituents, manages panel review process for applications, proposes funding amounts, presents grant recommendations for consideration by the Chairman, Senior Deputy Chairman, Deputy Chairman for Grants and Awards and to the National Council on the Arts. Elects experts in the Design area to serve as pre-screening and panel reviewers and chairs panel meetings. Participates in formulation of rules, regulations, policies and procedures to implement legislation affecting the Arts Endowment. Ensures accomplishment of unit's objectives through combined technical and administrative direction of division staff. Team participation is vital to effectively/efficiently accomplish discipline/unit assignments. Performs other related duties as assigned.
