Principal Indigenous Adviser (Identified Position) Vacancy ref AQ525/06 Organisation Arts Queensland Arts Development Occupation Policy, planning & research Classification AO8 Salary $3,063.40 - $3,239.90 per fortnight. ($79,922 - $84,527 per annum). Positions Brisbane - 1 Permanent Closing date Friday, 12 January 2007 Mandatory requirements It is a genuine occupational requirement of this position that it be filled by an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person as permitted by the provision of the Anti Discrimination Act 1991. A significant element of this role requires close consultation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities. For this reason, a person of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent is well suited to consult with communities and provide information and advice on Indigenous issues relating to the arts. Key duties This role will primarily provide high level advice to key stakeholders both within Arts Queensland, across the Arts portfolio and also the Arts industry relating to planning, development and evaluation of arts services and infrastructure relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures in Queensland. This means you will be; - Participating in and leading, where required, project teams responsible for the development and review of policies, strategies, and funding programs relating to Indigenous arts and culture to ensure their integration and consistency with government and achievement of arts sector objectives. - Providing advice to executive management on all issues affecting indigenous arts cultural policy and programs. - Monitoring, evaluating and providing advice to Arts Queensland clients and stakeholders on whole-of-government, other agency and Australian Government indigenous policy and programs affecting the arts, and recommending alternate courses of action where appropriate. - Advising art form Directors in negotiations and consultation processes with indigenous community representatives. - Mentoring and supporting other Indigenous staff within Arts Queensland. - Working with Cairns Regional Office staff on the development and implementation of strategies and programs for the North Queensland region. - Contributing to the capacity of the agency to meet reporting obligations within the government framework. - Representing Arts Queensland on Indigenous policy forums or working groups across government agencies where appropriate. - Researching, analysing and reporting on complex policy issues relating to indigenous art form development. - Preparing and assisting in the preparation of complex correspondence, including briefs, submissions and policies. Selection criteria To be successful in this role, you will need to: - Have highly developed knowledge and understanding of protocols relative to working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. - Confidently communicate and be able to negotiate successfully with people from indigenous communities relating to key funding arrangements and art form specific strategies on behalf of Arts Queensland. - Have a demonstrated knowledge of an area (or areas) of arts and culture relevant to indigenous arts. - Have a good working knowledge of policy frameworks in a government setting and be able to apply these to contemporary principles of working with indigenous arts communities. - Be able to write formal, persuasive documents quickly and precisely, such as assisting in the preparation of submissions, briefs, Ministerial responses and other complex documentation to a high quality and within acceptable government guidelines. - Demonstrate your well-developed interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of people both within and outside of Arts Queensland. - Be organised, outcome driven and be able to demonstrate initiative.
