Director of Development

The American Federation of Arts (AFA) is seeking an energetic, enthusiastic Director of Development to join a small, fast-paced, non-profit arts organization. The Director of Development will provide leadership, direction and coordination of the AFA’s development programs including major gifts, program support, annual fund, corporate and foundation support, individual and museum membership and the endowment. S/he will work with the Director, Board President, Development Committee, and others, as appropriate, on fundraising and major gift strategies and approaches. With the Director, s/he will craft and implement a unified, organization-wide plan and approach to fundraising that takes into account the individual and specific needs of the programs and overall goals and objectives of AFA. S/he will oversee the development and submission of all funding proposals, as well as a streamlined approach to prospect research and the integration of state-of-the-art fundraising technologies and systems. S/he will supervise 3 staff members. The qualified candidate will have a minimum of five years of senior-level fundraising and development experience, preferably at an art museum or related institution. S/he will have significant experience and accomplishment in major gifts, corporate and foundation support, endowment, and planned giving. S/he will have excellent organization, analytic, written and verbal communication skills, as well as excellent supervisory, interpersonal and diplomatic skills. S/he will be able to take initiative and be creative in developing new sources of support and work as a member of the senior staff and interdepartmentally as needed.
