Assistant Director, Cultural Programs

Asia Society, the leading global organization working to strengthen relationships and promote understanding among the people, leaders, and institutions of Asia and the United States, is seeking a dynamic professional to serve as Assistant Director of Cultural Programs. Research, design and produce an exciting series of programs in a variety of formats including lectures, films, panel discussions, interviews and symposia. Develop cultural programming to educate the public locally, nationally, and internationally about Asian and Asian American culture. Bring high visibility to the institution, explore new ideas and trends, profile important cultural figures as well as emerging voices. Work with colleagues within the institution to build vibrant multi-disciplinary cultural programs. Explore potential for online programming. Train and supervise administrative staff, interns and volunteers. Evaluate programs after completion. Generate and manage program budgets, negotiate contracts, fees, and oversee travel arrangements and all individual program costs. Write proposals and coordinate with External Affairs in securing grants from government agencies, corporations, foundations, and individuals.  Oversee marketing of events to increase annual attendance and reach new audiences, especially to raise organization’s profile in Asian American communities. Expand on-line marketing and website development of public programs. Masters degree preferred.  Broad interest that spans fields of arts and culture, knowledge of Asia, Asian cultures. 5-6 years experience in program development and presentation. Experience in fundraising and budget management; excellent administrative, oral and written communication skills.  Proficiency in new trends in technology preferred.
