Audience Development Manager

The newly established Film Agency for Wales receives core funding from the Arts Council of Wales, the National Assembly and the UK Film Council. The key aims of the Agency are to help the Welsh film industry achieve viability and sustainability and promote a vibrant and dynamic film culture. The Film Agency for Wales is responsible for the distribution of funds (grants and equity investments) to stimulate creative talent, project and company development, increase production of innovative film in Wales and support film exhibition and education. Job Description The Audience Development Manager will be responsible for enhancing the profile of Welsh filmmaking talent in Wales, elsewhere in the UK and internationally; and will input into the debate and formulation of audience development strategy. The post will entail liasing with and distributing funding to the film exhibition sector and film festival organisers; assessing projects, initiatives and business plans and drawing up tailored funding agreements, including agreed performance targets. The Agency core funds specialist film exhibitors, supporting sustainability and growth in activity, and co-finances special exhibitor events and festivals throughout Wales, including the Cardiff Film Festival. Particular regard will be given to increasing audience reach and access over the next three-years. The Audience Development Manager will be responsible for overseeing the Agency’s funding of formal and informal education initiatives, as devised by the specialist film exhibition sector or education organisations, which enhance audience film literacy. In addition to drawing up funding agreements and monitoring performance, the Audience Development Manager will oversee the establishment of a centralised and accessible resource of materials as created for the various funded projects/initiatives. The Audience Development Manager will gather information pertaining to international profiling opportunities, such as festivals, markets, training, conferences and collaborative projects with third parties, and as appropriate will liase with partner organisations, such as The Hub and Skillset, and devise and implement preparatory workshops to maximise opportunities. Person Specification Applicants should have a thorough understanding of the exhibition sector and full appreciation of the potential to improve film literacy and audience access to film through festival activity and education initiatives. Experience at budgeting and business planning is required, as is IT literacy. Applicants should be self-motivated, pro-active, diplomatic and keen to work in partnership with the sector.
