Director
The Crafts Council is an independent charity which receives regular funding from Arts Council England. Its mission is to champion craftspeople, inspire and encourage more people to pursue craft as a career and to increase public interest in the work of makers and public accessibility to that work. The Council has recently concluded a far-reaching review to deliver its ambition to see a thriving contemporary crafts sector spread across the country. It is embarking on new ways of working which will see the Council developing innovative partnerships with other national and regional organisations, establishing a strong and vibrant regional presence across England and leading national craft education policy. The Trustees of the Council now seek a new Director to lead this programme. He or she will have a track record in achieving major organisational change,a significant reputation as an inspirational senior leader and manager and proven ability to deliver complex strategies and generate income. The next Director is likely to have worked within the arts or a related sector and to have some familiarity with Government and funding bodies. They will certainly have a strong interest in contemporary crafts. Excellent communication skills,an ability to work effectively with trustees, and the personal presence to represent the Council and inspire others with a sense of passion for crafts are all important attributes.
