Deputy Director

The Commonwealth Foundation is a London based intergovernmental organisation that works to enhance the role of civil society organisations in governance, democracy, sustainable development and culture. It achieves this by strengthening their institutional and human capacity, and creating opportunity and space for partnership, participation, advice and leadership, thereby achieving lasting improvements in the lives of Commonwealth people. The Deputy Director assists the Director in the overall management of the Foundation by overseeing, facilitating and coordinating its activities and development on a day-to-day basis, as well as having primary responsibility for major aspects of the Foundation’s works. Candidates must be able to demonstrate:

  • Extensive management experience / expertise in civil society or government in more than one Commonwealth country;
  • Experience and understanding of civil society, its networks and contribution to democracy and development;
  • Awareness of arts and culture in the Commonwealth;
  • Versatile, creative and authoritative management;
  • Good communication, networking and public relations skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work with and motivate small multinational teams;
  • Strong track record in project, organisational and financial management;
  • Experience and proven track record of success fundraising and negotiating partnerships;
  • Proven ability in organisational strategy and policy development;
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to work effectively under pressure; and
  • Good attention to detail to ensure high standards of completion.
