Director of Research

Arts & Humanities Research Council On 1st April 2005 the Arts and Humanities Research Board is due to be established as a full Research Council reflecting and confirming the considerable success achieved since its creation in 1998. Its mission is to promote and support excellence in research and postgraduate study in the arts and humanities. Through its programmes it supports work that will both improve knowledge of human culture past and present, and seek to enhance the quality of life and creative output of the nation. The Director of Research is responsible to the Chief Executive of the AHRC for the development and implementation of the research and postgraduate funding strategies and will play a major role both internally and externally. The post carries responsibility for the identification and development of new priorities and will require close collaboration with the academic community across the breadth of the arts and humanities as well as with other stakeholders within government, within the other research councils, with other research funders, including the higher education funding councils, and in the culture and heritage sectors. Preferred candidates will have a personal research record of standing with the ability to establish credibility across the broad spectrum of disciplines encompassed by the AHRC. Extensive experience of research management and of developing strategies in an academic environment is sought together with the ability to lead and motivate a team of some 40 staff.
