Director for Diversity

The National Trust for Historic Preservation seeks a Director for Diversity to lead its diversity programs and activities. The Director will be a senior level manager reporting to the President of the National Trust. The duties of this position will include helping to instill diversity as an integral value of the National Trust so that diversity becomes imbedded into the everyday culture of the organisation. The Director will provide leadership in setting the Trust's overall diversity policy, program direction and implementation, serving as point person to enhance the organisation's environment for and commitment to diversity, forging partnerships with organisations and individuals, creating new outreach initiatives, engaging the national historic preservation network on diversity issues, and creating partnerships with existing diversity initiatives within the preservation movement. The Director will also support efforts to increase funding levels for the Trust's various diversity initiatives and programs existing throughout the organisation. Qualifications Work history, training and the personal and professional skills that will demonstrate an ability to effectively carry out the duties of the position, including:

  • a passionate interest and commitment to diversity and preservation;
  • effective communicator, collaborator and negotiator; ability to think strategically, expansively and creatively about diversity and preservation and to turn that thinking into clear goals and outcomes;
  • personal creativity and strategic vision, coupled with an ability to listen to others and learn from their best ideas;
  • ability to bring staff and volunteers together across organisational lines;
  • ability to represent the Trust effectively in forging new partnerships;
  • respect and appreciation for divergent views and the ability to work cooperatively with diverse organisations, constituencies and cultures;
  • understanding of organizational management issues
