Director of Research

Overseeing a research programme valued at £800,000, your responsibilities will be wide ranging. You will conduct research and compile reports on audiences for the arts, and the achievement of targets set for the Arts Council by government, including reporting on major programmes and monitoring awareness, activity and public perceptions. You will also oversee ‘campaigning’ research – reports which identify key policy issues for the arts and culture, and help the Council to develop the case for public investment. This will involve developing and managing a specialist team, and providing strategic direction to research across the Arts Council. You will need excellent knowledge of research developments and methodologies, together with a sound understanding of national/international research infrastructures, relevant policies and strategies. You will naturally have extensive experience of managing and implementing complex research projects, and of writing for a variety of audiences. This is an outstanding opportunity for someone with drive, tenacity and vision to shape the expansion and development of the arts and culture. The role is highly results-driven, and provides the opportunity to ‘make things happen’ on a regional and national scale that is truly exceptional.
