Director of Development
The Alliance for the Arts, a nonprofit arts service organisation dedicated to information services, policy research and advocacy for the arts in New York, is currently seeking a Director of Development to start as soon as possible. The Director of Development will be responsible for all aspects of fundraising for this organisation with a $2.4 million operating budget. The Director of Development will work with the President and Vice President in implementing the fundraising strategy. Responsibilities include: - Develop an overall fundraising strategy, including goal setting and evaluation - Implement fundraising plan - Develop, write, coordinate and submit all grant proposals and appeals - Research new funding prospects in all areas (foundation, corporate, government and individuals) and for all projects - Create and maintain a functional development calendar - Track proposals, grants and reports to funders - Maintain and expand donor database, gift acknowledgements and donor recognition - Serve as a liaison to the Board of Directors - Manage all aspects of Alliance special events, including fall cocktail party and spring gala dinner, and other donor cultivation events such as the Arts Forum Qualifications: Minimum of five years progressive responsibility and demonstrated success in fundraising required. The candidate should have superior writing, organisation and communication skills. He/she will have the ability to effectively communicate the mission, goals, strengths and potential of the organization and have demonstrated knowledge of fundraising, based on a combination of educational training and practical experience. Fundraising experience in a cultural organisation desirable. He/she will have personal contacts in and knowledge of the cultural funding community to bring to this organisation. Strong computer skills required. Knowledge of MS Word and Excel required; experience with MS Access desirable. The successful candidate will be knowledgeable about the cultural life of New York. Flexible, curious, sense of humor, initiative, strong work ethic, and the able to perform well under pressure are all personal characteristics of the ideal candidate. He/she will be able to make a multi-year commitment to the Alliance.
