mda exists to focus professional attention on the role of collections, information and knowledge; to assist individual museums and others make informed strategic decisions about stewardship and access; and to support individual collections’ managers and documentation staff. Its remit is UK-wide and its perspective international. The organisation is now at a significant milestone in its 25 year history. A recent review of mda recommends that its core funding is increased to enable the maintenance and growth of its key services to the sector. As a result mda and the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council are working closely together to develop a long-term funding agreement. The Board is now seeking an outstanding and committed individual to build upon the ground-breaking work and contribution of Louise Smith, who is moving on to fresh challenges. The successful candidate will * be responsible for the strategic direction of the organisation * bring proven management and business planning skills * be able to demonstrate extensive knowledge of the strategic issues affecting information and collections management * have a thorough understanding of the international, national and regional contexts within which museums and other collecting institutions operate. The recruitment process is being managed on behalf of mda by the National Museums and Galleries of Wales.
