Director for the Vera List Center for Arts and Politics
The New School is seeking a Director for the Vera List Center for Arts and Politics. The Center was established in 1992 by a generous grant from Vera List, a Life Trustee of New School University. The Center's mission is to provide a forum for a critical examination of the ways in which the arts shape, and are shaped by, the broader social and political context. In public lectures, panels, symposia, and special events, the Center is a place where the most important questions about the role of the arts in civic culture will be explored among the diverse communities that contribute to the vibrancy of NYC's cultural life. The new director will be expected to bring together artists, scholars, and critics and to develop programming that will address the most compelling intersections of art and politics in both local and global contexts. The director will also be responsible, with the Dean of The New School, for fund raising activities for the Center, and will be expected to develop links between the Center's activities and the liberal, visual, and performing arts departments of The New School, and to build collaborations with other cultural institutions. New School University, and its individual academic divisions, are committed to a policy of equal opportunity in all its activities and programs. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin, citizenship status, religion, sex, sexual orientation, age, physical disabilities, veteran or marital status.
