EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

The Executive Director of the Greater Lansing Symphony Orchestra (GLSO) is the chief executive officer and must provide leadership to the organization at the highest level. The primary areas of responsibility include annual and endowment fundraising with a specific emphasis on the endowment campaign; promoting and marketing the GLSO to the wider community; support of the Music Director and the artistic vision; advising the Board of Directors and implementing the policies set by the Board; budgeting and financial management; implementation of strategic planning; leading the administrative team, including the educational programs of the GLSO; working with all constituencies including subscribers and ticket holders, donors, musicians, staff and the wider community; providing leadership and vision on all organizational issues. The Executive Director reports to the President of the Board. Requiremsnts: The successful candidate will be an open, communicative, and confident professional who brings creativity, vision, and charisma to the position. The ability to provide passionate advocacy for the GLSO in the wider community is essential. The Executive Director should also be a model of integrity, fairness, and have high ethical standards. Ingenuity, compassion, dedication, enthusiasm, humor, and energy are also valued attributes. A high level of business and financial acumen is essential. Basic knowledge of computer technology is important. Creative and informed leadership skills and general management experience are important. A bachelor’s degree is required with a master’s degree in arts management or business management preferred. The Executive Director should have a strong music background and experience at a management level in the field of music and/or the performing arts. However, candidates with experience in other types of non-profit organizations--and who have a passion for music--will also be considered. The GLSO is an equal opportunity employer.
