DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR

The Director of Development will be responsible for all aspects of fundraising for the organization. This work will include planning, coordination, implementation and management of all fundraising activities in a $2.4 million operating budget. The Director of Development will work with the President and Vice President in implementing the fundraising strategy.
Responsibilities include:
- Develop and implement an overall fundraising
- Develop, write, coordinate and submit all grant proposals
- Research new funding prospects in all areas (foundation, corporate, government and individuals) and for all projects
- Track grants and report to funders
- Maintain and expand donor database, gift acknowledgements and donor recognition
- Manage special events, working with board, staff and events plannerMinimum of five years progressive responsibility and demonstrated success in fundraising required. Proven success in a leadership capacity desired.
The candidate should have superior writing, organization, computer and communications skills. Database experience (particularly with Microsoft Access) required. He/she will have the ability to effectively communicate the mission, goals, and strengths of the organization and demonstrated knowledge of the field based on a combination of educational training and practical experience. He/she will be knowledgeable about the cultural life of New York and have personal contacts in and knowledge of the cultural funding community. Sense of humor, flexibility, initiative and the ability to perform well under pressure are personal characteristics of the ideal candidate.Interested applicants are invited to send a resume and a letter describing their experience and where they learned about this opportunity, as well as a two-page writing sample (preferably an executive summary of a grant proposal) and salary history.
