Chair of the Arts Council of Wales

Are you someone with a keen interest in developing the arts in Wales? The Welsh Assembly Government invites applications for Chair of the Arts Council of Wales, to fill a vacancy from 1 April 2003. The Arts Council of Wales is an Assembly Sponsored Public Body funded largely by grant in aid from the Assembly Government and is one of the five Lottery Distributors in Wales. The Council's main aims are to develop and improve understanding and practice in the arts and to promote the accessibility of the arts to the public of Wales. The Welsh Assembly Government is looking for highly committed, enthusiastic and motivated individual who can contribute to the on-going strengthening of the Arts Council of Wales through strong leadership, giving constructively of their own knowledge, sk ills and experience in matters relating to the arts in Wales. The appointment would be for an initial term of three years and would require a work commitment of 2 days a week on Council business and attendance at all Council meetings (six times a year in varying locations in Wales). The Chair will also be expected to attend arts events and meet local authorities and other bodies concerned with arts provision. This post is currently unremunerated although the Welsh Assembly Government is consulting on the possible introduction of payment for members of its Assembly Sponsored Public Bodies (ASPBs).
