EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

The Rockwell Museum of Western Art seeks an experienced professional with vision, leadership and strong management skills to lead the museum to a new level of local and national importance, and to broaden its base of support. Founded in 1976 and located in the beautiful Finger Lakes Region of upstate New York, the Museum houses the finest collection of Western Art east of the Mississippi River and contains masterworks by Remington, Russell, Bierstadt, Moran, Catlin, and many others. Recent works by Native American and other emerging Western artists are being collected to bring perspective and breadth to the collection. The Executive Director reports to the Board of Trustees, administers a $2.2 million budget, and oversees 12 full-time staff, docents and volunteers. This position requires an individual who is experienced and effective in attracting significant funding, and in developing strong relationships with a wide range of audiences and constituents. The Executive Director further develops policies relating to collections, exhibitions, educational programming, audience development and overall museum operations. The ideal candidate will have outstanding management and supervisory skills and be able to motivate staff in a collaborative, team-oriented environment. Knowledge and appreciation of Western Art, American Art and Native American Cultures desired. Minimum 5 years experience in a museum leadership role and an advanced degree is required.
