DIRECTOR

Northwestern University invites applications for the position of Director of the Mary and Leigh Block Museum of Art. The Block Museum, established in 1980, has a collection of almost 5,000 works of art, primarily prints, drawings, architectural drawings, photographs, and outdoor sculpture. The new lake front museum building, a two-story modernist structure designed by Lohan Associates, opened in Fall 2000. Its 20,000 square feet contain multiple exhibition spaces, a 160-seat auditorium, a print, drawing and photograph study center, and a library/conference room as well as a digital gallery and classroom. The Block provides a forum for the exhibition, interpretation and understanding of the visual and related arts, including new media. The mission of the Block is to complement the University''s broad education, research, creative and scholarly goals. We are seeking a director with vision, goals and management skills to build on a strong foundation. The director will be responsible for programming, and the strategic and financial direction of the museum. A primary responsibility will be the development of interdisciplinary programs in the arts on campus. A master''s degree in art history or a related field is required and a doctorate is preferred. The successful candidate will have a minimum of five years of related experience. A faculty appointment is possible for an appropriately qualified candidate.
