The Council of the European Union session “Education, Youth and Culture”, 11 – 12 May 2009, Brussels
This is 2941st session of the Council of the European Union, this time under the Presidency of the Czech Minister of Education, Youth and Sports and the Czech Minister of Culture.
The first day of the session on Monday, 11 May, was devoted to the current and future framework for cooperation in the youth field.
The session on Tuesday 12 May was devoted to education, namely cooperation between educational and training institutions and employers in the context of lifelong learning, as well as discussing European educational strategies till 2020. Then in the afternoon the Council debated on and adopted conclusions on culture as a catalyst for creativity and innovation also in the domain of economy and economic growth. Therefore the Council wants to promote various ways of supporting cultural policies and their usage in developing creativity.
The Council also designated the European Capital of Culture for 2012 and 2013.
There will be also a separate open debate concerning the creative content online – how it should evolve taking into account technological development and issues of media literacy and piracy.
