Cambodia and Laos culture profiles online
Visiting Arts in the UK has launched two new online guides for international culture. The Cambodia Cultural Profile and the Laos Cultural Profile were developed with the local culture ministries, and aim to map the cultural profiles of the two countries. Each will present information on: archives, competitions and awards, funding, ethnic culture, festivals, film, government policy and infrastructure, heritage, international exchange, libraries, and much more. A list of key people are given for each cultural sector, making it possible for readers to make contact with each country’s cultural industry. In 2004, the Vietnam Cultural Profile was launched, and since has attracted acclaim for the comprehensive coverage of the country’s cultural industries. It is hoped that the two new profiles will provide a renewed international interest in Cambodian and Laos culture. “The fully-detailed descriptions of all the institutions and organisations involved in artistic creation and cultural heritage are indeed remarkable, allowing direct contact between all of the people involved in these fields,” said Étienne Clement, Representative, UNESCO Cambodia.
