Visiting Arts Director steps down
After ten years as the Director of UK organisation, Visiting Arts, Terry Sandell will be stepping down from the board in 2005, while former Rockefeller Foundation President, Gordon Conway, will become Chair. Terry will be taking up a position in the Ukraine as Director of the British Council, though it is not known exactly when he will leave Visiting Arts. Gordon Conway will be replacing Richard Lambert as chair. He is an agricultural ecologist with a wide experience in government, NGOs and peak bodies. He has worked as a Representative of the Ford Foundation in India, as Chair of the Runnymede Trust’s Commission on British Muslims and Islamophobia, and he was Vice-Chancellor of the University of Sussex before becoming President of the Rockefeller Foundation in New York. Visiting Arts is a national agency, aimed at promoting the flow of international arts into the UK, and developing cultural links abroad to help build cultural awareness and positive cultural relations. It is jointly funded by the UK’s four national Arts Councils, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the British Council. Gordon Conway will also continue to implement Visiting Arts’ ‘Change Management Programme’ – the result of an externally-led review completed in August. The purpose of the programme is to help VA maintain its professionalism, flexibility and relevance in an environment where needs and priorities are constantly changing. The resignation of Terry Sandell and Gordon Conway’s appointment are part of a larger board reshuffle at Visiting Arts. To read more details, please Click Here
