Art Under The Microsope To Feature At World Cancer Congress
Transformations in Science and Art - the monumental cross media art work by English artists Denise Wyllie and Clare O’Hagan, is to be featured at The 7th World Congress of Psycho-Oncology, August 2004 in Copenhagan. The piece celebrates the work of scientists involved in Cancer Research and has drawn praise worldwide for its artistic merit and positive impact on the field of cancer study. Transformations in Science and Art began with an invitation to Wyllie and O’Hagan from Professor John Hartley, to visit his Cancer Research UK funded laboratory in London. Inspired, two artists committed to celebrating the scientist’s remarkable achievements and the vibrant, microscopic world he explores in their next project. The artists felt compelled to driven to consider the individuals who have dedicated their lives to cancer research and their inestimable contribution to the knowledge that now benefits the suffering. Transformations also honours the people who have faced, and those who are facing a future with cancer in an accompanying artwork entitled ‘Whitework - a gentle path.’ In ‘Transformations - Constructing a New Model’, the artists look to discover creative strategies to equip a person to manage the changes they experience in facing cancer. Wyllie and O’Hagan’s forty two metre cross-media, textile artwork will be a cultural centrepiece of the World Psycho-Oncology Congress.
