Urbis to host second Manchester Arts Show

The towering all-glass Urbis building in Manchester will host the second Manchester Art Show from November 27 to 30. Over 80 artists from across the UK will descend on Manchester to take part in the event, which has been organised by Engaging Arts. A selection of paintings, sculptures and photography will be on display and available to purchase. A £30m lottery-funded project, the Urbis museums tells the story of modern Manchester as well as other international cities around the world, over four floors of interactive exhibits. The building was designed to uplift the city and create a ‘millennium quarter’, as part of the redevelopment process in the city following the IRA bombing in 1996. The museum opened in June 2002 in time for the Commonwealth Games, to mixed reviews from critics and the public. Its first director, Elizabeth Usher, resigned in March this year.
