Artists on the Move
Culture has no boundaries. For the cultural sector, working in an international environment usually is the rule, not the exception. However, policy and legislation in the European Union and the EU member states are not always in tune with the day-to-day reality of artists and cultural organisations. With the conference Artists on the Move, the Service Centre for International Cultural Activities (SICA) and the Cultural Contact Point (CCP) the Netherlands will expand upon earlier conferences about cultural mobility. Plenary sessions and workshops will focus on practical solutions for barriers preventing artists and cultural organisations from working internationally. European policy makers, umbrella organisations, funds and general managers of cultural operators will join forces with representatives from other relevant sectors in their search for practical solutions, in order to make suggestions for changes in policy. From the conference conclusions, the SICA will extract suggestions to be presented to the Dutch State Secretary of Culture and prepared for the formal Council of European Ministers of Education, Youth and Culture, in Brussels on 15 and 16 November 2004. Registration is required by 23 September, 2004.
