'Widening Access' Showcase Celebration
Widening Access is a pilot programme, developed by the Arts Council in partnership with the Department of Culture, Arts & Leisure (DCAL) to encourage both the involvement of disabled people in the arts and the improvement of access at arts venues. The showcase celebration of work by disabled artists and performers will be a springboard for a series of disability arts workshops and disability awareness training to occur later in the year. The evening of music, dance, drama and comedy features some of the best professional performers and local talent from Ireland and the UK: well-known TV performer, Wandabarbara, flamenco music with Cearbhall O’Meadhra, the Open Arts Choir, Sign Dance Collective (featuring David Bower from Four Weddings and a Funeral), comedy-drama with Lilliput Theatre, Drake Music, cabaret with Julie McNamara, satire with Peter Kearns & Co, and visual art displays by artists Padraig Naughton, Peter Mooney, Mary Kpakra and Lois Davies. Tickets cost £5 per person, including light refreshments. Booking is at Lagan Valley Island, Lisburn, Tel: (028) 92509254. Special requirements or travel concerns should be highlighted at the time of booking.
