Microfinance
Your Question
We are wanting to host a workshop on ‘alternative funding models for the arts’ in mid-September, looking at micro-credit, and other financing models (rather than the traditional Arts Council handout). Would you have knowledge that you could share in this regards at an event like this, or could you recommend someone or two if not?
Our Answer
The first thing that comes to mind is ConnectCP (www.connectcp.org) which you are on. In particular, you might like to search on people who have put as one of their interests ‘financing the arts and culture’. This search can be refined through combinations of other search fields.
Other interests under the same category are:
A2. FUNDING CULTURE
- Business sponsorship of the arts
- Financing the arts and culture
- Fundraising and sponsorship
- Gambling policy
- Philanthropy and the arts
- Privatisation of culture
- Self-financing of cultural centres
- Taxation and matching grants
We would love to hear if you found this website useful for the search – also if you’ve ever received any emails via the system.
Other ideas might be:
- Development Gateway (Zunia): information on microfinance is at: http://zunia.org/cat/microfinance/, or there might be someone in its culture and development community with expertise:
http://zunia.org/cat/culture/ - Commonwealth Foundation

A quick search at the IFACCA website found these links where you might be inspired by some of the people involved, especially the culture finance stuff from the UK:
- Support offered for creative industries in North West:

Some of the people linked to these reports or organisations are on ConnectCP (such as Dr Tomova) http://www.connectcp.org/profiles/profile.php?profileid=168&lang=en)
You might like to try other keyword searches (eg loans) to see if there are any other items on the IFACCA website of interest.
Hope this prompts some useful ideas!
