IFACCA strengthens its regional chapters
IFACCA is supporting its members’ networking at the regional level with some new resources.
IFACCA has two formal regional chapters, in Asia and Africa, and a formal regional group in Europe. We are also looking to establish regional groups in Latin America and the Caribbean, and the Pacific, in the near future.
IFACCA has compiled fact sheets on each of the regional groups giving detailed information on their structure and current priorities. We have also created individual web pages for each regional group at www.ifacca.org/membership/regional_chapters/. The webpages also include links to each of the networks that we work with in the region, and a dynamic listing of IFACCA members in each region.
IFACCA has appointed regional coordinators in Europe (Diane Dodd), Latin America (Santiago Jara) and Africa (the African Arts Institute, led by Mike van Graan). Regional coordinators liaise with current members and contacts, advise on key regional issues and members’ priorities, and promote IFACCA and its work at regional meetings, as well as having input into IFACCA’s research and communication activities such as ACORNS. Regional coordinators work on a part-time basis, reporting to IFACCA’s Executive Director.
We have also set up ‘Email groups’ for members in Africa, Asia and Europe. These will be used to encourage discussion and debate, sharing of information and distribution of resources to IFACCA’s national members in each of these regions.
At the last General Assembly, the members of IFACCA agreed to amend the constitution to include a new section (No. 56) about the membership and operation of Regional Chapters. The objectives and purpose of IFACCA’s regional chapters are to:
• build inter- and intra-regional networks between national and affiliate members of IFACCA, to promote understanding and enhance cooperation between arts councils and culture agencies;
• promote a consolidated platform for the sharing and exchange of collective knowledge of arts councils and culture agencies;
• strengthen the capacity of arts councils and culture agencies to meet the challenges and opportunities of policy-making and funding issues; and
• otherwise further the objectives of the Federation.
If you have questions or comments about any of these new resources, please do not hesitate to let us know. We hope these webpages and factsheets will become a vibrant and interactive information tool for our regional groups.
