IFACCA members discuss arts and education policy
On 24 May, IFACCA organised a meeting of members immediately prior to the UNESCO Second World Conference on the Arts and Education, in Seoul, South Korea, to talk about possible future networking possibilities.
As detailed in the attached summary report, delegates representing eight of IFACCA’s national members attended the meeting and a further six IFACCA members attended the UNESCO conference and had the opportunity to meet their IFACCA colleagues. Dan Baron Cohen, IDEA President 2007-2010 and Chair of the World Alliance for Arts Education, based in Brazil, attended the meeting as a guest of IFACCA. Participants had previously received a Fact Sheet on IFACCA’s involvement in arts and education and a discussion paper.
Members agreed to work toward establishing an email group for staff from member organisations who are responsible for arts and education policy; to share research reports and other key items of news; to work towards developing a shared view of priorities; and to explore the possibility of developing partnerships with other interest groups.
Delegates then attended the UNESCO Second World Conference on the Arts and Education on 25-28 May. Gathering more than 650 international experts from over 95 UNESCO Member States, the conference built on the work of the successful First World Conference. As well as reinforcing the many dimensions discussed at the first Conference, it enlarged the scope to notably include the socio-cultural dimensions of arts education, embrace the diversity of learning environments and reinforce the role of arts education in social cohesion and cultural diversity. The main outcome of the Conference was the Seoul Agenda: Goals for the Development of Arts Education, a comprehensive plan of action for all arts education stakeholders.
