ConnectCP at Cuba Congress
ConnectCP Co-ordinator Diane Dodd attended the culture.mondo network meeting held within the framework of the 5th International Congress on Culture and Development in June at the Havana's Convention Hall Centre, Cuba. Culture.mondo is an informal network that encourages and facilitates communication between cultural portals worldwide. The culture.mondo web site provides a gateway to cultural portals and a repository of resources and research. Hosted by the Portal of the Cuban Ministry of Culture, the meeting focussed on the needs and potential for co-operation in Latin America and the Caribbean. Under the congress theme, 'Defending Cultural Diversity', debate centred on defending local identities against the homogenising tendencies of globalisation. Culture.mondo members took part in the debate on June 14 in a panel chaired by Carlos Mas Zabala (Cuba), with speakers Alfonso Castellanos (México), Vladimir Skok (Canada) and Diane Dodd.
