First CEO leadership seminar a success

As a lead-up event to the third World Summit on Arts and Culture, IFACCA staged a half-day leadership seminar for CEOs of member agencies on 14 June. Over 20 CEOs and guests heard presentations by former UK Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, Chris Smith (now Lord Smith of Finsbury and Director of the Clore Leadership programme), and Dr Jonathan Katz, Chief Executive of the US National Assembly of State Arts Agencies. Participants discussed key issues affecting leaders of government arts funding agencies, such as advocating the value of arts funding, independence of decision making, and the impact of broader government agendas. An initial review of the evaluation forms showed 100% of participants felt the overall value of the seminar was 'useful' or 'very useful' and that all participants proposed to network with other CEOs following the meeting. A full report on the seminar will be circulated to members next month.
